Flatwork is most of what we do and most of what goes wrong on a job when somebody rushes it. The finish is the part you see. The base underneath it is the part that decides whether you are looking at the same slab in fifteen years.
We compact and check the base before anything is poured, set the reinforcement to the thickness the job actually needs rather than the thinnest that passes, and cut control joints on a spacing that suits the pour instead of on a habit. Concrete is going to crack. Joints decide where.
In this valley the freeze-thaw cycle does the damage, not the cold. Air-entrained mix, proper cure, and drainage that moves water away from the slab rather than under it.
