The work

Finished, and on the go

Heath builds commercial and residential across the Flathead Valley and pours his own concrete rather than hiring it out. Some of these are done. Some are dust and rebar right now, which is most of what building actually looks like.

Harborside · Lakeside

The one half the valley has eaten at

Harborside is a waterfront restaurant in Lakeside, and Heath finished it. Site work, foundations, flatwork and the general contracting that holds the rest of it together.

It is the kind of job with nowhere to hide. A terrace people sit on, in view of the water, where a bad pour is visible from every table for the next thirty years.

A commercial concrete slab being poured from a pump boom, three workers screeding wet concrete across a rebar mat at first light.
Formed and poured concrete foundation walls with snap ties and rebar on an excavated lot, plywood forms still standing on one side.
A newly framed two storey custom house with exposed stud walls and roof trusses, snow-dusted mountains behind.
A commercial interior under construction, polished concrete floor half finished, metal stud partitions framed, exposed ductwork above.
A completed steel-framed commercial shop building with roll-up doors and a fresh wide concrete apron.
A finished broom-textured concrete driveway with crisp saw-cut control joints running toward a garage.
A tracked excavator cutting a building pad, gravel base being spread and compacted, grade stakes and string lines in the foreground.
A finished stamped and coloured concrete patio in an ashlar slate pattern with a clean border band, lake and mountains beyond.

Harborside

A waterfront restaurant in Lakeside that half the valley has eaten at. Finished, open, and the kind of job where the concrete has to be right the first time because there is nowhere to hide a bad pour on a terrace people sit on.

Lakeside

Shop building and apron

Steel building up, doors hung, and an apron wide enough to turn a truck on without dropping a wheel off the edge.

Flathead Valley
A finished broom-textured concrete driveway with crisp saw-cut control joints running toward a garage.Residential

Driveway and approach

Broom finish, joints cut before it cracked where it wanted to, and a clean edge that still looks like an edge after a winter.

Flathead Valley

Stamped patio

Ashlar slate pattern with a clean border band. Decorative work is the same job as a driveway with less room for error.

On the go right now

A commercial concrete slab being poured from a pump boom, three workers screeding wet concrete across a rebar mat at first light.Commercial

Commercial slab pour

A commercial pad going in: rebar mat tied, pump set, and a crew screeding it flat before the sun gets on it.

Flathead Valley
Formed and poured concrete foundation walls with snap ties and rebar on an excavated lot, plywood forms still standing on one side.Commercial

Foundations and footings

Forms up one side, stripped walls the other. The part nobody photographs when it is done and everything above it sits on.

Flathead Valley
A newly framed two storey custom house with exposed stud walls and roof trusses, snow-dusted mountains behind.Residential

Custom home

Walls standing and trusses set on a new build. Same crew that poured the footings under it.

Commercial tenant improvement

An interior fit out with the floor half polished and the partitions going up. Commercial work is mostly sequencing, and sequencing is what a GC is for.

Excavation and site prep

Cutting a pad and building the base back up in lifts. Get this wrong and everything poured on top of it fails the same way.

Flathead Valley

Harborside is a job Heath finished. The rest of the photographs on this page show the kind of work he does and are being replaced with his own as they come off the jobs.
